I've been playing piano for over 17 years. Classically trained at an early age, I then trained as an accompanist and picked up some tricks of the trade. My advancements on the piano recently are self-taught, and I am ever-seeking of new styles to play. Most often I'm found:
..

-playing showtunes and standards at cabarets and cocktail hours
-being the Piano Man on classic and contemporary rock hits
-backing church choirs, for both bluesy/gospel and traditional/hymnal services

. I've played 100+ gigs over the years including weddings/services, private/holiday parties, business/charity functions, musicals/comedy shows and more. As background or the main event, with or without vocals, there has yet to be a gig I have not been able to accommodate. .

Musical Direction is something I did long before I knew I was doing it. Beginning with shows I put up with friends, I had no choice but to oversee the musical needs of the show. Whether it was accompanying, teaching harmonies or simply offering ideas to shape the score, I felt at home in the process.

Over time, musical direction has not become my career; rather, it is a passion that occasionally I get to share with other creative artists in situations ranging from full-length musicals and one act originals to vocal groups and cabaret shows. For me, it's about making music through a concerted effort to enjoy the process. To have fun. Good sound comes from people who relish both the product and the process it takes to arrive there.

No one person or cast is the same. I adapt my language and exercises to fit their needs, all the while maintaining dilligence and a strong work ethic. When the music happens on its own, my work is done. Then we all can enjoy the ride.

I sang on board Celebrity Cruiseline's The Summit throughout Hawaii and Alaska as the lead of The Dischords, an a cappella quartet that sang doo-wop and barbershop tunes. Click below for pics, video and audio files.
